„The birth of your baby is an experience, which you will never forget. The role of the Doula consists in ensuring that the birth becomes as positive and fulfilling an experience to remember.” Penny Simkin
You are expecting a child; congratulations on your pregnancy!
With a Doula birth companion you have a familiar, empathic and birth experienced specialist by your side.
The work of a Doula ties together the stages of pregnancy, the birth and the family time. She ensures emotional security for the woman and her partner during this interesting and oftentimes also unsettling time. Thus she helps to strengthen the confidence of the woman or couple. Experiences have shown that this form of birth accompaniment has perceptible consequences on the birth. The birth experience of mother, father and child is thus positively influenced by the practice.
A Doula does not replace neither midwife nor medic. She has no medical function and can thus focus her attention completely on the woman/ couple. The Doula is a woman, who can have given birth to her own children and/or who has acquired further in-depth knowledge on birth through her education. She knows and understands the emotional needs of the becoming parents.
By the way: The term “Doula” stems from old Greek and its meaning is “servant to the woman”. It is articulated “Dula”.
